About me

My name is Emma Brown (she/her). I am a BACP registered and NCPS accredited registered counsellor and psycotherapist.

Some time ago I hit a really low point in my life and decided to get help. I was fortunate enough to find a counsellor who offered exactly what I needed; warmth, compassion and kindness. The whole experience transformed my life.

I have always been drawn to working with people and helping their growth. Before counselling, I worked as a facilitator, coach, and people leader, with a strong focus on diversity and inclusion, but I wanted to offer more.

I enrolled with the well respected Metanoia Institute and completed the rigorous training to become a BACP qualified Person Centred Counsellor. This approach appeals to me because it focuses on helping clients to find their direction and power.

I’ve since worked within a community-based counselling service, at The Mulberry Centre, a cancer charity in Isleworth, and through my private practice in London. I am an Associate Counsellor with Lavendla.

Upheavals, life transitions and loss

I work with people experiencing upheavals, such as cancer or other health diagnosis, changes at home or in relationships and problems at work. I support people through life transitions, such as menopause or perimenopause or caring for a family member. I help those dealing with loss, such as bereavement or the end of a relationship.

When we face one or more of these problems we can be left feeling anxious, low, confused and lost. Our usual coping mechanisms no longer do the trick. The past experiences we thought were dealt with can resurface. We can be left asking what is all this about?

My qualifications

My approach

You know your story best. I work collaboratively with you to find a way to tell it. Whether by talking, writing, photos, or music; through complete freedom or a bit of structure. We’ll work together to discover what you prefer.

My intention is to empower you throughout. We will start by discussing what you want to get from counselling. I will check-in with you about what’s working, whether you feel yourself progressing and what more could support you to achieve your aims.

The values that shape my approach

Warm

I offer you kindness and compassion. I will give you room to look at the things you’re facing at your pace. I want you to feel safe to lean back and breathe out.

Accepting

I offer a space free from any expectations, assumptions or judgements. Where all the many, messy, glorious parts of you are welcome. Be angry, be sad, cry, swear, shout. I’m with you.

Inclusive

I am committed to continuously learning and unlearning to ensure I work in a way that is accessible and anti-oppressive. I will treat you as an individual, whilst holding awareness of privilege, oppression and power.

I recognise and welcome all identities, gender expressions, values and beliefs. I am committed to anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ inclusive, accessible and neuro-inclusive practice.

“Working with Emma has genuinely helped me stay grounded through some incredibly tough times – including navigating job loss and caring for a sick mother. She supported me through an ADHD diagnosis and helped build my self-confidence in a way that felt natural and empowering. She's easy to talk to, has a great sense of humour and always makes me feel safe and understood.”
